Step 1
Start by drawing a long curved line, like the top of a circle. This will constitute the pinnacle of football.
Step 2
Draw a long curved line to form a mirror image of the first line, completely enclosing the shape of the cartoon soccer ball. The lines should connect in gentle points at each end.
Step 3
Draw a pair of parallel, curved, and nearly vertical lines, near one end of the cartoon soccer ball. They form the characteristic stripes of football.
Step 4
Draw another set of parallel curved lines on the opposite end of the soccer ball, forming the remaining stripe.
Step 5
Draw two roughly horizontal curved lines in the middle of the soccer ball, near the top. Then connect the lines at each end using short curved lines. This shape forms the basis for the soccer ball’s characteristic stitching.
Step 6
Draw another curved line down the middle of the shape drawn in the previous step. Then, use short curved lines to enclose the curved shapes that intersect the original shape. Erase guide lines as necessary. These shapes represent the stitching of a soccer ball.
Step 7
Draw more curved shapes, add more stitches. Erase guide lines as necessary.
Step 8
Draw a few more curved shapes, filling the base with stitches from start to finish. Erase guide lines as necessary.
Step 9
Draw two curved lines running the length of the soccer ball. Notice how the lines don’t go over the stripes or stitching.
Step 10
Color your ball. American footballs are typically brown with white or brown stripes and stitching.
