Step 1

First of all, outline the contours of the oval head and neck, going into the spine. Next, we draw a chest and a pelvis. With the help of simple lines, outline the arms and legs. To learn more about human proportions, visit our drawing lessons for beginners. Sketch two lines on top and move on to the next step.

Step 2

Outline the shape of the neck and torso, slightly narrowing at the waist. Sketch a triangular pelvis like in our example. Next, outline the arms and legs using very simple geometric shapes. This stage is also described in great detail in the lesson on how to draw a man. Recall that in the first steps we should use very light lines.

Step 3

Now let’s add some details to our police drawing. Let’s start with the head, outline the glasses, nose and mouth. On the head is also sketched a policeman’s hat and ears. Next, we move lower and outline the contours of the collar, tie, belt, pants and holster on the waist.

Step 4

If your policeman’s “dummy” is the same as ours, then start drawing the final paths, gradually removing unnecessary guides. We’ll start with the top and we’ll move down. First carefully draw the glasses, nose and mouth. Next, draw the contours of the face and the angled police hat.

Step 5

Using a few short strokes, we draw the contours of the neck. Next, draw a long collar and tie. Draw the contours of the shoulders and torso, not forgetting to draw the folds of the fabric, as in our example. On the chest we draw pockets, and on the belt a pistol in a holster.

Step 6

Now let’s work with the limbs. Carefully draw the contours of the long sleeves, considering the folds of the fabric and the folds of the arms under the sleeves. Draw the hands as in our example and a badge on the shoulder, not forgetting to remove unnecessary guide lines from the arms.

Step 7

If you have already drawn the upper part of the body, then it is time to draw the lower part. In this step, we will draw the contours of the pants, considering the folds of the fabric and the curves of the legs under the garment. That is, the pants must not look like two flat panels. Draw the outline of the shoes and remove all remaining unnecessary guides from the police drawing.

Step 8

The lesson on how to draw a policeman is almost done, and we just need to add some shadows to make our drawing more realistic and massive. First we define the light source, then we draw shadows in the least light areas by hatching different intensities. Bloom density is denser for the darkest areas and less intensive for less shady areas.
