    Step 1

    In the first step of the tutorial on how to draw a flying bird, we will use a pencil to draw some rough outlines for the bird.
    For now, the lines and shapes will be pretty basic, as we’ll be adding more details in the later steps of this tutorial. For the sketch now, you will draw the head, body, wings and tail.

    Then, once you have all these pencil outlines, you can use the pen to draw on the bird’s face and beak.

    While doing this, you can also draw some elements like eyes and mouth on the beak. Once you’re happy with how it looks, you’re ready for step 2!

    Step 2

    Start drawing some more pen details
    The second part of your drawing of the bird in flight will see you add some pen line detail to your bird.
    For this part we will focus on some lines on the wings and some bodies. Now, you can take a look at the bird’s bottom line.

    You can also go over the bird’s tail while adding some finer details as you go along.

    Step 3

    Start adding feather details to the wings
    In this third part of our tutorial on how to draw a flying bird, we will finalize the outline of the bird.
    For the most part, you’ll focus on the feather tips of the wings. To do this, you can use some sharp jagged lines along the wings. This will make it look like beautiful wings and feathers!

    Step 4

    Draw some more details inside the wings
    Your sketch of the bird in flight is pretty much done now, so in the next few steps we’ll draw some details on the inside of the wings.
    Using the pencil lines that you copied in step 1, carefully draw some sharp feather lines along the inner line of the wing.

    This will really help give the image some texture. Once you’ve drawn it, you’re ready for the final details in the next step.

    Step 5

    Finalize the final details of your flying bird drawing
    This step of our how to draw a flying bird tutorial will be about adding some final details to really complete it.

    These details will mainly appear on the wings, you can add more feather details to it.

    You can then add any final pen lines that you may have missed from the previous steps.

    Once you have drawn all the pen details that you want for your image, you can erase all the pencil lines from the first step because you won’t need them anymore.
    When you erase, use caution as the ink can take a while to dry completely! Once all these details have been added, you can also add any other elements or details you want.

    Some ideas you could include is having some other bird fly with this one. You can also draw a lovely background to really complete it in a unique way!

    By drawing the background, you can tell what kind of weather or terrain conditions this bird is flying through.

    You can also look up different landscape paintings for inspiration for some backgrounds that you can draw on!

    Step 6

    Complete your flying bird painting with some colors
    Now that you’ve finished your flying bird painting, it’s time to relax with some fun coloring to really finish it off! In our example, we use blue, gray, and yellow to color the bird.

    Step 1

    Start by sketching the head of the blue bird. Use a curved line to form the top of the head. Then use some curved lines to create a triangular beak. Finally, use another curved line to draw the neck below the beak.

    Step 2

    Extend long, curved lines from the front and back of the neck, outlining the back and abdomen.

    Step 3

    Draw a “W” shaped line at the bottom of the bird’s back. This outlines the tips of the wings. Then, draw a series of short, curved lines and “U” shaped lines from the “W” to the beak. This outlines the color of the bird.

    Step 4

    Extend a pair of lines from the tips of the wings to form the tail. Use a series of small, “U” shaped lines to enclose the tail at the bottom. Draw long, roughly straight lines the length of the tail.

    Step 5

    Use a series of short lines to connect the belly to the tail, allowing them to meet at jagged points. Notice the pair of longer lines that form the bird’s upper legs.

    Step 6

    Extend a pair of parallel lines from the top leg, forming the bottom leg. Then, enclose a “U” shape on the bottom of the leg to outline the grip foot. At the back of the foot, wrap some curves to form the claws.

    Step 7

    In addition to the feet, draw a small circle. Connect it to the pins using a pair of straight lines. This starts the branch on which the bird sits. Extend the lines beyond the feet. Just below the top leg, draw a curved and pointed shape on the top of the branch, indicating the other leg.

    Step 8

    Bird detail and texture. Use “U” and “J” lines of different sizes to add a feathery texture to the wings. Use hyphens to detail the head, neck, and chest.

    Step 9

    Mine detail with short lines. Draw a circular eye, with a much smaller circle inside it. Add dimension with short lines around the eyes.

    Color your blue bird. The Eastern bluebird has a bright blue head, back, wings, and tail. The neck and thorax are red or orange, the belly white. Male bluebirds are brighter in color than female birds.

    Step 1

    Start by drawing a circle. This will form the parrot’s head

    Step 2

    Next, outline the parrot’s body. First, extend a curved line down from the top. Round the line – imagine it forming a complete circle if it continues. This forms the parrot’s belly. Then, from the opposite side of the circle, extend a long, curved line. This outlines the parrot’s back and tail. Finally, connect the lines using a third curved line, enclosing the parrot’s tail

    Step 3

    Erase the guide lines separating the parrot’s head and body.

    Step 4

    Using a curved line, enclose a circle in front of the parrot’s head. This will complete the shape of the head. Then, use two curved lines to form a large upside down teardrop shape along the back of the bird’s body. This outlines the wings.

    Step 5

    At the front of the head, use three short, curved lines to enclose a curved triangle overlapping the face. This is the parrot’s beak. Clamp the half circle below the beak, using a short, curved line. This forms the lower jaw of the beak.

    Step 6

    Draw several rows of wavy lines across the bird’s wings, using the connected “U” shaped lines to form each layer. Do the same at the tail end. At the tips of the wings and tail, draw vertical curved lines, indicating flight feathers (learn how to draw a feather).

    Step 7

    Remove the guide lines from the bird face.

    Step 8

    Draw a set of bumpy, wavy, parallel lines across the front of the bird, passing near the base of the tail. This forms the branch the bird is sitting on. Then draw a few small protrusions from the branches. Remove guide lines if necessary.

    Step 9

    Add details to your parrot. Attach a few small triangles on the top of the head to represent a bunch of feathers. Draw an oval within an oval to form the eye. Draw a small circle within the smaller oval and shade around it. Draw a thick, curved line at the corner of the eye to represent the eyelashes, and a curved line above to form the eyebrows. Use a set of curved lines, joined at each end at gentle points, to form the foot. Remove guide lines if necessary. Add feather detail to the bird’s chest using “V” shaped areas of short, curved lines

    Step 10

    Color your parrot. The bird in our example is green, but the parrot comes in many other colors too – red, blue, yellow, gray, or a combination of colors.
