Avatar is a 2009 American sci-fi film written and directed by James Cameron, starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Joel David Moore, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver. The film is set in 2154, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium at Pandora, a lush, life-bearing planet in the constellation Alpha Centauri. The mining expansion at the village cluster is threatening the existence of the Na’vi indigenous tribe in Pandora. The title of the movie deals with the application of genetic technology in the DNA hybridization between the Na’vi and the Earth people of a Pandora-based interaction research group.
