Step 1
Start by sketching the head and neck of the cartoon pelican. Use long curved lines and short “U” shaped lines to give the head a feathery look.
Step 2
Draw the eyes of the pelican. Use curved lines to create irregular rounded outlines. Draw a curved line over the head to indicate the eyelids. Surround a circle within a circle, then shade them to indicate pupils. Draw a curved line over each eye to form the eyebrows.
Step 3
Begin sketching the pelican’s large beak. Draw a wavy line on the face. From there, extend two long curves and allow them to meet at a point. Draw a short curved line at the corner of the mouth.
Step 4
Use overlapping curved lines to draw the drooping bottom of the beak. Then use a curved line for the front of the neck, and a series of curved lines to indicate the fur of the cheeks.
Step 5
Draw wings. Use a long curved line for the top of the wing, and overlapping curves for the feathers along the bottom.
Step 6
Use a long, curved line to draw the bird’s belly. Then use “U” shaped lines to outline the tail.
Step 7
Draw legs, erase as needed. Use a series of curved lines to trace the hairy upper leg. Then, stretch a pair of curved lines to form the legs and feet. Draw pairs of curves in the shape of a “W” and let them meet at gentle points. Draw curved lines between the toes to create webbed feet.
Step 8
Draw the other leg. Use curved lines for the upper leg and overlapping curves to shape the foot in the picture.
Step 9
Wing detail with “U” shaped lines.
Step 10
Color your cartoon pelicans. Many pelicans are white. Others have a combination of white, brown, gray and black fur.
