Please see the drawing tutorial in the video below
You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below
Step 1
Peonies are made up of many different layers of petals, and we’ll build on these layers in this how to draw peony tutorial.
If you find yourself messing around with details, you may find it easier to draw with a pencil before redrawing with a pen at the end.
First, draw the top petals of the flower. Some of these petals will overlap, as you can see in the reference image.
Once you’ve drawn these petals, you’re ready for the next step!
Step 2
Continue building layers of peonies
As we mentioned in the previous step, we will build your peony drawing layer by layer. For this step, you can draw the bulky center of the flower.
Then you will draw some petals on the sides and below the center of the flower.
As you can see in the reference image, these petals will be wavy with some lines on them as well as some texture detail.
Step 3
Now you can draw some larger petals at the base of the peony
In this step of our peony drawing tutorial you will see you add more petals to the layers of the flower.
For this part, you’ll draw some larger, flowing petals below the flower near the base. These petals will also be one of the largest petals you’ve drawn so far in this tutorial.
Step 4
Next, draw the stem and more petals
You’ll be drawing the long stem of the flower in this step, but first we have some petals to add to your peony drawing.
First, add some large, drooping petals underneath the flower. Once you’ve drawn these petals, you can then start drawing the body.
It should be long and fairly straight with only a few edges and bumps. Remember to leave some space near the top of the stem as you will draw a leaf there in the next step.
Step 5
Now you can add some leaves to the flower
It’s almost time to add some pretty colors to our peony tutorial, but before that, we just have a few more details to add!
First, you will fill in the space you have left on the stem by drawing a large leaf. You can then add another leaf below the petal and above the other.
That should wrap up all the elements of this peony tutorial, but before moving on to the final step, you should make sure to add any details of your own!
You can draw a beautiful garden as the background.
If you’ve already done this, then you can paint some more peony variations or fill it with your favorite flowers!
There are lots of ways you can put your own spin on this painting, so make sure to let your creativity run wild. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Step 6
Complete your peony painting with some colors
You’ve worked hard and finished your peony painting, so now it’s time to relax with some pretty colors!
In our reference image, we used a lovely pink for the petals while incorporating some yellow for the center. Then we finished it off with a bright green for the petals and leaves.
