Step 1
Begin by drawing the pilgrim’s hand. Use straight and curved lines to outline the quadrangular crown and long curved lines for the brim.
Step 2
The pilgrim’s hat is a buckled hat. Draw a curved line across the crown to form the headband. Then, draw a rounded rectangle inside the rectangle above the ribbon, creating the buckle.
Step 3
Sketch the man’s hair and ears. Use a series of differently sized “U” shaped lines to form the hair. Draw a “C” shaped line for the ear and detail inside it using a curved line.
Step 4
Enclose the face with a long, curved line. Then, use another curved line to form the nose.
Step 5
Detail of the pilgrim’s face. For each eye, draw a “C” shaped line with a small circle for the pupil. Use curved lines to indicate the eyebrows, mouth, and cheeks.
Step 6
Next, you will sketch the typical pilgrim’s clothing. Draw a “U” shaped line at the neck. Then, draw the garment’s triangular collar on each side of it.
Then, draw a long curved line to form the body. Below this, enclose three curved rectangles, one within the other. This forms the belt and belt buckle.
Step 7
Draw the man’s arm. For each arm, extend two curved lines. Draw a curved trapezoid at the end of each arm to enclose the sleeve and form the cuff.
Draw a small button, a circle, on each cuff. Then, use a series of overlapping curved lines to enclose the hand.
Step 8
Draw two curved rectangles below the waist, forming the tail of the shirt. Below this, enclose two irregular circles. This is the top of men’s pants.
Step 9
Extend two lines below each pant leg to create the bottom pant leg. Then, use a curved line to enclose the irregular triangle of the shoes. Duplicate a curved line back to itself at the top of each shoe.
Step 10
Color your Pilgrim cartoon. In most works of art, Pilgrims are depicted in dark, plain, black or brown clothing. While this was often true of poor pilgrims, wealthy pilgrims actually wore bright colors.
