How To Draw A Rat with this how-to video and step-by-step drawing instructions. Easy animals to draw for beginners and kids.
Please see the drawing tutorial in the video below
You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below
Step 1
Start by drawing a circle in the center right of your paper.
Step 2
Next, draw a rounded triangle that protrudes from the right side of the circle. The triangle and circle will overlap.
Step 3
Connect triangles and circles using short, straight lines.
Step 4
Erase overlapping areas of circles and triangles.
Step 5
Draw another, slightly larger circle to the left of the first circle. The two circles should overlap.
Step 6
Draw another, larger circle to the left of the second circle. These circles do not touch each other.
Step 7
Connect the top and bottom circles using curved lines.
Step 8
Erase the overlapping lines, allowing a small portion of the top of each circle to remain within your new shape.
Step 9
Next, use curved lines to form the closest front leg. Start in the middle of the shape, slightly to the right of the center. The lines will curve towards each other before reaching a point at the foot. A small line in this shape indicates the toes. For the far leg, draw a triangle that doesn’t meet at the top. Using five curved lines, form three toes that extend to the right and end at a point.
Step 10
Erase the closer leg cross.
Step 11
Add feather detail using short curved lines that connect into jagged points.
Step 12
Remove the guides from the proximal leg and the large circle on the back.
Step 13
To draw the hind legs, start with two curved lines. One will extend from the middle left of the big circle. The other will extend from the center of the great circle to its bottom. Connect two curved lines using short lines to create a ruffled detail. To form the foot, extend a loose s-curve from the serrated line to the right. To form the toe, use four curved lines in the shape of an “M”. Use another curve to connect the other line to the rat’s stomach.
Step 14
Remove the curved guide line from the rear foot.
Step 15
To draw the base of the tail, start by drawing a curved line from the center left of the figure to the bottom. Use some short strokes to create a jagged detail. Connect this to the back leg using a curved line.
Step 16
Draw the tail using two long and curved lines. They will start on each side of the base of the tail and curve to the right, ending below the front paws. The curves must meet at a blunt point. Then use seven short, curved lines to add texture to the tail. These lines should run from the left tail line to the right, ending just before meeting the right tail line.
Step 17
Each ear consists of two curves. For closer to the ear, overlay an irregular, partial circle on top of the second circle you drew. The circle should be open at the bottom right. Draw a similar, smaller circle inside it. For the far ear, draw a short, upside-down hook that opens to the right side and extends from the top right of the second original circle. Draw another hook facing the left side, connecting the end of the first hook to the end of the mouse.
Step 18
Draw the eye just below and to the right of the distal ear. Draw a nose at the tip of the muzzle – it will look like an upside down, rounded triangle.
Step 19
Draw another circle within the eye circle. Use six nearly straight lines to draw the beard, extending from the nose to the bottom.
Step 20
Erase the guide lines in the proximal ear. Shade the area between the eye bags.
Step 21
Color your cartoon mouse.
