Step 1
Start by drawing Garfield’s face. Draw a small oval for the nose. On each side of the nose, extend a curved line that ends in a spiral. This forms the top of Garfield’s mouth and cheeks.
Then, use long curved lines to enclose two large ovals, partly above the nose. Draw a curved line across each eye to form the eyelids, and shade small ovals to represent the pupils.
Step 2
Enclose the mouth with two curved lines, each extending from the nose to the cheeks. Create texture on the cheeks with dimples and whiskers – small āUā shaped lines at the corners of the mouth to form dimples and dots for the base of the beard. Then, outline the edges of the face using long curved lines.
Step 3
Draw Garfield’s ears. Use overlapping curved lines to form rounded triangles. Then, detail the ears by drawing a curved line across each ear.
Shade three curved shapes at the base of each ear to represent tufts of fur. Line the chin with a short, curved line and outline the rounded body.
Step 4
Use curved lines to sketch Garfield’s arms and hands. Notice the āLā shaped lines of the arms and the overlapping lines of the palm and fingers.
Step 5
Outline the palm using two curved lines. Then, use a series of overlapping lines to begin sketching the remaining arm.
Step 6
Complete the hand by using two curved lines to draw the third finger and the edge of the hand. Then, extend two parallel lines from the hole in the body. This is Garfield’s leg. Use overlapping curved lines to sketch the top and bottom of the foot.
Step 7
Complete the foot by using two overlapping curved lines to form the remaining toes. Then, start with the other foot and leg.
Use a curved line for the front of the leg and overlapping lines for the top of the foot and the first two toes.
Step 8
Complete the foot with a “C” shaped line for the last toe and a curved line for the bottom of the foot.
Draw the tail using a curved line twice as long as itself. Texture the ears by shading narrow triangles at the tip of each ear.
Step 9
Let’s give Garfield his stripes. The silhouette has successively smaller curved shapes along the sides of the face, back, and tip of the tail. At the tip of the tail, shade some narrow triangles.
Step 10
Color your cartoon cat Garfield. He is orange with black stripes.
