Step 1
Start by drawing an irregular circle, like an oval with a flat top. This will help you form the head of the cartoon character.
Step 2
Use curved lines to add contour to the lower half of the face – cheeks and chin. Then, extend a pair of curved lines from the head down to form the neck.
Step 3
Erase parts of the original shape as needed. Then outline the eyes. Outline the eyes, using curved lines, creating a circle that is slightly pointed at the ends. Enclose an oval in each eye. Cover a small circle in one eye and a larger circle in the other to create a mismatched pupil. Mark the eyelid with a curved line.
Step 4
Outline the nose using curved lines. Fill in a small circle to indicate the nostril. Then, use curved lines to enclose a curved triangle that covers one cheek and half of the chin.
Step 5
Use curved lines to enclose the smiling (or frowning) mouth in a triangle. Use vertical and horizontal lines to outline the teeth.
Step 6
Use curved lines to enclose the ears on each side of the head and to create detail for the inner ear. Use additional curves to outline closed lips, wrinkles below the eyes, and to enclose the eyebrows.
Step 7
Use long, curved lines that meet at points to form the hair. Erase as necessary when the hair overlaps other parts of the face.
Step 8
Use curved lines to draw the collar of your character’s shirt, forming a double triangle on each side of the neck. Neckline and collarbone with additional curves.
Step 9
Use overlapping curves to outline the shoulders and arms of the garment, and also give size to the shirt collar.
