Step 1
Start by drawing a circle. This will form the head of the duck.
Step 2
Drag a long, curved line from the bottom of the circle to form the duckling’s neck, chest, and belly. Extend a shorter curved line from the circle to form the nape.
Step 3
Use a series of curved lines to outline the duckling’s wings. Notice how the top of the wing consists of a single curve, while the bottom of the wing is a scalloped pattern of joined “U” shaped lines. It should also be noted that the wing is not completely enclosed when it is attached to the fuselage.
Step 4
Detail the wings with a feather texture by drawing a series of “U” shaped lines that are joined together. Then draw the tail using some long curves and some short curves, enclosing the duck’s body.
Step 5
Draw the beak using curved lines. Notice the bulge at the tip of the beak and how the top and bottom of the beak overlap. Enclose a curved triangle in the lower part of the beak to indicate an open mouth.
Step 6
Remove the guides from the mine.
Step 7
Draw baby propeller. Use parallel curved lines to draw the legs, then outline a “W” shape at the bottom to enclose the toes. Draw a curved line between each toe to represent the part of the net that helps the duck swim.
Step 8
Use curved lines to outline the rest of the leg and foot. Notice the overlap of the lines at the flex of the ankle and the line separating the individual toes.
Step 9
View your duckling details. Draw a small oval on the beak to indicate the nostril. Draw a large circle for the eye, with a small oval inside it. Shade between the two rows and draw short, curved lines on top of the eyes to indicate the lashes. Glue a curved and pointed shape above the eyes for the eyebrows and draw a tuft of hair on the top of the head using a series of short and curved lines that meet at sharp points. Delete the guide lines if necessary. Finally, detail the body with hatches at the neck and side of the wings.
Step 10
Color your duckling. Many are depicted in bright yellow, as in our example. However, ducklings can also be white, gray, brown, black, spotted or striped.

Step 1
In the first step of the tutorial on how to draw a flying bird, we will use a pencil to draw some rough outlines for the bird.
For now, the lines and shapes will be pretty basic, as we’ll be adding more details in the later steps of this tutorial. For the sketch now, you will draw the head, body, wings and tail.
Then, once you have all these pencil outlines, you can use the pen to draw on the bird’s face and beak.
While doing this, you can also draw some elements like eyes and mouth on the beak. Once you’re happy with how it looks, you’re ready for step 2!
Step 2
Start drawing some more pen details
The second part of your drawing of the bird in flight will see you add some pen line detail to your bird.
For this part we will focus on some lines on the wings and some bodies. Now, you can take a look at the bird’s bottom line.
You can also go over the bird’s tail while adding some finer details as you go along.
Step 3
Start adding feather details to the wings
In this third part of our tutorial on how to draw a flying bird, we will finalize the outline of the bird.
For the most part, you’ll focus on the feather tips of the wings. To do this, you can use some sharp jagged lines along the wings. This will make it look like beautiful wings and feathers!
Step 4
Draw some more details inside the wings
Your sketch of the bird in flight is pretty much done now, so in the next few steps we’ll draw some details on the inside of the wings.
Using the pencil lines that you copied in step 1, carefully draw some sharp feather lines along the inner line of the wing.
This will really help give the image some texture. Once you’ve drawn it, you’re ready for the final details in the next step.
Step 5
Finalize the final details of your flying bird drawing
This step of our how to draw a flying bird tutorial will be about adding some final details to really complete it.
These details will mainly appear on the wings, you can add more feather details to it.
You can then add any final pen lines that you may have missed from the previous steps.
Once you have drawn all the pen details that you want for your image, you can erase all the pencil lines from the first step because you won’t need them anymore.
When you erase, use caution as the ink can take a while to dry completely! Once all these details have been added, you can also add any other elements or details you want.
Some ideas you could include is having some other bird fly with this one. You can also draw a lovely background to really complete it in a unique way!
By drawing the background, you can tell what kind of weather or terrain conditions this bird is flying through.
You can also look up different landscape paintings for inspiration for some backgrounds that you can draw on!
Step 6
Complete your flying bird painting with some colors
Now that you’ve finished your flying bird painting, it’s time to relax with some fun coloring to really finish it off! In our example, we use blue, gray, and yellow to color the bird.

Step 1:
The first step to drawing an easy duck is your first building lines or shapes. For the first shape, you will need to draw a slightly sloping and large oval. The left side of the oval will need to be slightly higher than the right side. This is because the body of a duck has a slight slope towards it. If you’re using a pencil, rather than a tablet, make sure the lines are quite translucent, so don’t press too hard, you’ll want to erase these lines later. Make sure that your duck drawing oval is centered on the page, allowing plenty of room around for the rest of your duck’s body.
Step 2:
Oval is the most used and most common of all building shapes. Your duck sketch will now need a wing base, and here’s another oval! Make this oval narrower, which will also overlap the main construction line circle of your duck drawing a bit. Keeping in mind that your duck’s wings will protrude slightly above the tail, make sure you draw the end of the wing building circle slightly over the oval of your duck’s body construction line.
Step 3:
Most ducks, such as your mallard sketch, have short necks. You don’t want the duck’s head to be too high for its body. Ducks also have exceptionally round heads. Look at the oval point on your duck’s main body where its wings begin to overlap, just above this point you will draw a small circle to create a head construction line for easy duck drawing.
Step 4:
The fourth step is a quick and simple one. Draw an elongated “U” shape to create a speculum. Your speculum should be pointing down slightly from the front of the duck’s head.
Step 5:
Once you’ve completed step five of how to draw a duck, you’ll notice that your duck’s final shape is actually starting to take shape. Start by connecting your duck’s drawn body to its head. You will need to draw two lines, each of which should be smooth and seamless. When creating the first line, start from the bottom of the circle building up your duck’s head. You will then need to draw a curved line back and then around the front of the main body oval. For the second neckline, you’ll create a curve from the back of the head, going down to the duck body oval.
Step 6:
It’s time for the sixth step in your easy duck drawing. This is where you will add the duck’s legs and feet. All you need are some simple lines to help plan their placement. As mentioned earlier in this how to draw duck article, we covered how most of the construction lines used will be circles or other shapes, however, for the legs and feet not.
The legs and feet of your duck drawing will be more freely shaped. Around the midpoint of the duck’s main body, on the underside, you can make two separate lines for the legs. These currents will flow both down and forward. Your duck will also need three toes on each foot, which can be drawn at the end of the line. Remember the point! The legs of the duck on the far side will naturally be a bit shorter because the legs are farther away.
Step 7
The tail of a duck has a pointed tip, which you will notice when looking at a real duck as well as in duck drawings. The shape is almost iconic. Again, this step in your duck sketch is very simple. Start your tail line at the intersection of the main body and wings on the duck’s back, creating a small, curved tail that ends at the underside of the main body oval. Remember the sharp tip!
Step 8:
We’re almost at the end of our duck sketching tutorial! You will now create the final outline for your duck. Using the duck construction lines you created, you can now sketch out your duck drawing. This includes a duck’s head and body, wings, and even some of the duck’s facial features.
Starting with the duckhead, make sure you outline and follow your construction lines closely and precisely. You can add a small curve on the base of the beak. This will help show separation from the rest of the top of your duck drawing. You can also draw a line to represent the separation of the top and bottom halves of the beak. Remember that ducks also have nostrils, so draw a small hole near the top of the beak, where it meets the head. You can also draw a circle for your duck’s eyes.
Now, up your duck wings. You can dip your outline under the construction shape a bit, adding a few points at the end and a line at the top. To make drawing your duck’s tail easier, add some characters with some additional feathers. Your center point for y

I sketched the rough shape of the duck’s head, using the HB pencil. I kept the lines light, so it will be easier to make changes in the future.

Let’s add the frame of the foot. The duck’s feet are short and have three webbed toes for the front. I build them, using small circles and lines.

The beak has a slight curve in the upper part; I also drew a nostril and darkened the top of the note.

I tweaked the bottom part of the wing, adding a new element called the speculum. It is an area of black fur bordered by white or iridescent blue; Both sexes have this trait.
A platypus is prominent in flight or at rest but temporarily sheds during the summer’s annual molt. However, sometimes these bright feathers cannot be seen when the wings are folded.

I refined the contours of the wing layers, creating the illusion of volume. Wings can look finer or smoother, depending on many factors; Patterns and colors may also be slightly different.

Female mallards are mostly spotted. The individual feathers often exhibit a sharp contrast from dark yellow to very dark brown. I imitated this pattern, using an HB pencil.
I also applied eye shadow, leaving a small highlight, and creating a matte shadow. The back and top of the head are relatively dark. Remember the stripe near the eyes — it’s also dark

How To Draw a Duck Easy Step By Step

Step 1:
Draw the shape of the main body
The first building shape we are using in this tutorial is a large oval that is oblong and slightly sloping. You want to make sure that the left side of the oval is slightly higher than the right side, since the duck body is tilted. If you’re using physical media instead of a tablet, we also recommend using a very light pencil for construction lines so you can easily erase them later.
In this first step, make sure that the oval of the main body is in the center of your canvas and that there is plenty of room on all sides for the rest of the duck’s body.
Step 2:
Create the base of the wing
The oval is definitely the most common building shape and we use different sizes to create different elements of our duck sketch. For the base of the wing, you can draw a much narrower oval that overlaps the main body oval significantly.
The duck’s wings protrude slightly above the tail, so you want the end of the wing-building circle to extend slightly behind the oval of the main body.
Step 3:
Positioning Duck’s Head
Ducks have a very round head, so we will use a small circle as the base shape. Find the point on the oval of the main body where the wings begin to overlap. Now draw small circle just above this point.
Ducks have a fairly short neck, so you don’t want the head to be too far from the body.
Step 4:
Draw the beak in your duck drawing
This step is very simple and quick. Using a very long “U” shape, draw a beak pointing slightly down from the front of the head.
Step 5:
Connect head and body with neckline
Now it’s time to piece together the body and head of your duck sketch by drawing on the neck. Using two lines, you want to create a seamless and smooth connection between the head and body. Start at the bottom of the head circle, and draw a curved line back and then around the front of the main body oval. For the remaining neckline, draw a curved line from the back of the head down to the oval of the body.
Step 6:
Create the base for the legs and feet
For your legs and feet to be easy to draw, you can use single lines to draw them out. Most of the build lines you’ve drawn so far are shapes, but the legs and feet require more freeform lines. Starting at the midpoint of the underside of the main body, draw two separate lines flowing down and forward. On top of each of these lines, create three toes.
The hind leg line should be significantly shorter than the front one. This difference is due to the perspective of our drawing, where the line behind us is further away and therefore appears to be shorter.
Step 7:
Shaping the head and tail
The shape of the duck’s tail is very iconic, so this is another very easy step to complete. Starting at the point where the main body and wings meet on the duck’s back, draw a small curved tail and end on the underside of the main body oval.
Step 8:
Create the final outline of your duck drawing
Now it’s time to create the final outline of your duck drawing. Using all the building shapes you’ve drawn so far, you can sketch out the head, torso, and wings as well as draw some details on the face.
Starting from scratch, follow the construction lines pretty closely. For the beak, add a small curved line at the base to separate it from the rest of the head and create a line inside the beak to show the two halves. Now you can add a small nostril near the top of the beak and add a circular eye inside the head.
When it comes to contouring the neck and most of the body, you can follow the build lines very closely.
For the wings, you could dip your outline a bit below the build shape, adding a few points at the end and a line at the top. For the outline of the tail, you can add a few additional hairs. Use the leg and foot building lines as the center point for your contour. Remember to add curves between the feet to create the fabric. You can complete the foot by adding small claw details to each toe.
Step 9:
More feather detail
In this step, you will use a bunch of different texture lines and dots to create the impression of realistic feathers. Start by adding details to the mine, including some fine lines around the bottom of the mine. You can also color in the nostrils and add some shadow to the tip of the nose. You can continue to paint over the top of your easy duck drawing, adding small dots and lines around the beak and down the neck where the shadows fall naturally. While you’re working on the head, you can color a part of the eye and add some shading around it.
To make your texture as realistic as possible, you should follow the shape of your body when adding duck feather textures.
For the body of the duck sketch, you can create separation between the chest and the rest of the body with a small line. On the chest, your hair lines will flow down in a curved shape. On the rest of the body and wings, you can follow the shape of the duck using slightly longer lines. You can leave the head and tail and the legs and feet blank.
Step 10:
Time for color
Mallard ducks have very iconic colors and the best way to achieve realistic colors for any drawing is to build up different shades gradually. The first color that we will use for our duck painting is light gray. You can apply this shade over the whole duck body.
Step 11:
Apply a second layer of color
The second color you will add to your duck sketch is light brown. To get the difference in shade you can see below, you’ll apply two layers of brown in different areas. Use a medium brush to paint the nipples, upper back and lower wings brown.
The front part of the duck’s breast should be lighter than all other brown areas. For such a look, apply a second coat of light brown over all other brown areas.
Step 12:
Color the head bright green
There are two different colors that you will use in this step to create the signature iridescent green top. These two shades are light green and a cool purple shade. Start by coloring the entire head with your light green color. Then you can take a soft brush and mix the purple and green paint around the edges of the tip. Use an inward motion to blend the two shades together.
Concentrate quite a bit of purple just below the head in the neck area. Shadows will naturally fall in this area and purple is a great shader.
Step 13:
Color the paws and beak
Start this step with yellow and color the entire beak. You can then use a light brown shade to add shadow and contour to the beak. For the propeller, look for orange red and color the paw completely. You can complete the foot by adding a second layer of white highlighter on the forefoot and forefoot.
Step 14:
Shading and highlighting your duck drawing
Highlights and shadows are essential to creating realistic color and size. Start highlighting by using white shadows to add highlights all over the main body of the duck. Make sure your strokes follow the texture lines for more realism. You can also add a pop of white to the neck and add a little sparkle to the duck’s eyes.
To create shadows, use a soft brush to add a light coat of black paint to the bottom of the wings, around the bottom of the duck’s belly, and the entire tail.
Step 15:
End of touches
The final step is optional, but removing the outlines will create a more seamless and realistic drawing. The best way to remove borders is to mark them with the corresponding color. You can do the same for some of the texture lines inside the duck body, retouching these with shades of gray and light brown.
