They come in all sizes, shapes and colors, and they are man’s best friends. Over the centuries, many different breeds of dogs around the globe have been trained by humans to play important roles, from hunter to guard, from herder to companion. For some of these breeds, size is of considerable importance, whether it’s to hunt larger animals or guard a house with more power, or even just to have mass to survive. in icy climates. But out of all the dog breeds in the world, who is the biggest? Let’s find out together.
I’ve always owned Huskys, but when my Husky I adopted a German half-husky half-Shepard mix, it was absolutely massive. It looks a lot like the Sibe, but behaves significantly better and seems to shed a lot less hair (and a shorter coat to boot) the absolutely amazing member of the family. I thought it was a big dog, but in reality, it could be about 30 inches tall or so and weigh 80 pounds….it wasn’t until a year of donkey treatment that I discovered the man. Our neighbor has an Irish wolfhound. OMG that dog is huge, and very cool. GREAT owners and an absolutely amazing dog. That dog’s personality is just cherry on top. I really loved that dog enough for me to start researching them. They have such a short lifespan, I just can’t own one. I’d say it’s like 5-7 years or something like that. Too personality, too cute…. surely the owners of the Irish Wolfhound breed who don’t live long will be completely crushed.
What I find interesting is how genetically diverse dogs are. they bred bear hounds that look like bears (big, heavy, fluffy) and deer hounds that look like deer (slender, long legs, good bones) and were able to do it successfully
I don’t think it will come as a big surprise that the Irish Wolfhound will become number one or close to it! It’s an ancient breed that has existed in Ireland since 800 AD, over a millennium and beyond!! Gentle giant.
While discussing large dog breeds, during World War II, Bouvier De Flanders was one of the largest and most aggressive breeds. So much so that Hitler offered them a reward and the breed almost disappeared. In addition, among the large breeds there is the Italian Maremma breed. I personally have two of them. The largest one weighs 165.55 pounds or 75kg and is 39 inches tall at the shoulder, the smaller one weighs 149.91 pounds or 68kg.
