Step 1
Start by sketching the falcon’s head and body. Use a long curved line for the front of the chest and face, another curved line for the back. Connect them with a series of “U” shaped lines, forming a tuft of feathers at the back of the head.
Step 2
Draw the eagle’s eyes. Start with a curved line and enclose a half circle below it. Then, draw a small circle inside the eye.
Step 3
Erase part of the face to make room for the beak. Enclose an irregularly curved pentagon of straight and curved lines. Then, draw a line through it to differentiate the top and bottom of the beak.
Step 4
Draw the Griffin’s front legs. Use long curved lines to sketch the edges of the legs. Then connect them at the bottom using a series of “U” shaped lines.
Step 5
Draw bird-like feet or claws. Use a long curved line and duplicate it, creating two toes in the process. Band the feet using curved lines and draw a curved, triangular claw at the tip of each toe.
Step 6
Draw the reach leg using a series of overlapping curved lines. Note the overlaps that form the toes and the point where the back of the foot meets the hip.
Step 7
Extend two long, parallel curved lines from the butt to form the tail. Enclose the tip of the tail using curved lines of various lengths that meet at points. This forms a tuft of hair at the tip.
Step 8
Draw the wings, erasing as necessary. Use long curved lines and “U” shaped lines to sketch the wing. Note the āUā shaped feathers at the shoulder of the wing and along its lower edge.
Step 9
Detail the feathers at the animal’s neck using a series of connected “U” shaped lines.
Step 10
Color your cartoon Griffin. Will he be a solid color like a statue or will you paint him in lifelike colors? The choice is yours.
