You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below
Step 1
Draw a stick figure outline of your character’s body. Use straight lines for the arms, torso, and legs. Make the arms and torso the same length and make the legs about 1/3 longer. Then draw triangles or ovals for the hands and feet. Make the hands about 1/5 of the length of the arms and make the feet 1/6 of the length of the legs.
To get the proportions right, make your stick outline about 7 times higher than your character’s head.
Let the arm lines start at about 1/5 of the line you drew for the torso.
Ask for a stick figure sketch of your character recording any poses you want them to do. For example, if you want your character to be sitting, draw their legs so they are arched. Or, if you want your character to wave, draw one of their arms so that it bends.
Step 2
Sketch the general shape of your character’s body. Draw over the stick outline you’ve created, sketching a rough outline of your character’s torso, arms, hips, and legs. Don’t worry about making the border correct. At this point, you just want to show the different parts of the body with basic shapes.
Draw ovals for the upper and lower arms and legs, then draw a circle at each joint for the knee and elbow. In proportion, make your character’s upper and lower arms the same length and size. Make the top leg thicker than the bottom leg.
For the body, draw a quad (four-sided figure) that is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. Finally, the wide angles at the top will become your character’s shoulders.
To outline the hips, draw an oval on the intersection of the torso and upper leg.
Anime characters tend to be tall and thin, but you can experiment with different heights and body shapes!
Step 3
Connect and refine the general shapes you’ve drawn. Trace the outer edges of your character’s body so you have a seamless border. At this point, start tweaking different parts of the body to make them look more realistic, such as the character’s arms, shoulders, hips, and neck. When you’re done, you’ll have a full, detailed outline of your character’s body around the more abstract contours you drew earlier.
To connect and refine the pins, draw around the outside edges of each shape that makes up the legs (ovals for the top and bottom, circles for the knees, and the shapes you drew for the legs). feet) so you have a seamless part. outline of each leg. Make the contour smooth (without any gaps) so the legs look real.
For the upper body, do the same with your arms and torso. Round the corners of the torso to make the shoulders and draw 2 curved lines up from the center of the torso to make the neck. Also, connect the shape you drew for the hips to the torso and top of the legs.
Tip: If you are drawing a masculine anime character, widen the chest, waist, and shoulders. If you are drawing a female anime character, narrow the shoulders, make the hips wider, and outline the breasts. Also, draw in your waist to make it narrower.
Step 4
Erase the stick outline and the shapes you drew. Be careful when erasing so you don’t accidentally erase any final, subtle contours you drew. When you’re done, you’ll have a clean, seamless character body contour without any of the original guides you drew inside.[10]
Step 5
Add your anime character clothes. Draw clothes on your character’s body contour. For example, for your character’s shirt, draw the sleeves on their arms and the shirt body on their torso. Then erase any lines inside the clothes because those parts of your character’s body are covered. For example, if your character is wearing shorts, remove the hem of their upper leg on the inside of the shorts as you won’t be able to see that part of their leg.
As you draw clothes, think about where they would naturally wrinkle and fold if someone were to actually wear them. Then draw creases and folds to make the clothes look more realistic. You can also look at pictures of clothes online to see how they crease.
You can choose any type of costume for your anime character. Some of the more casual anime outfits you might consider include school uniforms, dress codes, and suits, as well as traditional Japanese costumes.
