Step 1
Let’s start the first step by drawing instructions to help make the whole drawing process easier. Start by drawing a circle with the wrong shape for the baboon’s head. Then draw an even larger one for the torso or upper body. Then draw a smaller one for the back end of the mandrill. From each one of those circles, draw stick pins with almond shapes at the ends.
Step 2
Now you can draw in his happy looking face. At this point, he already looks cute. And I know it’s him because he has beautiful marks on his face. Draw two small circles for the eyes, a long narrow muzzle with a smiley mouth at the bottom below the muzzle. Now move down and outline the arms and legs with some brief details about the feet and hands. As you can see, the baboons have been formed.
Step 3
In this step, what you will do next is outline the mandrill’s coat or fur. When doing this, you just need to use a light stroking motion to get your hand back and forth like you’re drawing a human hair. This is a very furry animal and is groomed by other members of the tribe. They take pride in their mane and I’m sure they’ll want you to paint it nice and neat. Detail the face a bit before continuing to the next step.
Step 4
A very simple short step here. Take your sketch pencil and draw the facial hair detail on the baboon. These are commonly referred to as beards. I think you’ve done a great job but there’s still work to be done, delete all the guides you drew in step one. One thing I just noticed in this step is, I forgot to tell you to draw light lines across the snout where the color is. Then you can move on to step 5, but first do you know that baboons only weigh. between 175-200 pounds?
Step 5
