You can refer to the simple step-by-step drawing guide below
Step 1
Start by drawing an oval. This will outline the dolphin’s body.
Step 2
On one side of the oval, draw a triangle that curves downwards. The lines should meet at one gentle point. This forms the basis of the dolphin’s tail.
Step 3
Delete the line separating the body from the tail. Draw flukes or caudal fins. For each fin, extend a pair of curves to meet at a gentle point. Then, draw the dolphin’s eye. Draw a large circle and shade a smaller circle inside it to form the pupil. You can leave a small, undetected circle in the pupil to give depth to the eye.
Step 4
Draw the dolphin’s beak or mouth. Draw two “U” shaped lines in front of the face, the upper “U” is larger than the bottom “U”.
Step 5
Draw the upper or dorsal fins of the dolphin. Use two curves that meet at a gentle point to draw a curved triangle.
Step 6
Draw the lower or pectoral fins. Use two curves that meet at a gentle point from the curved triangle.
Step 7
Erase the lines separating the body from the muzzle and fins. You now have a clear outline of a cartoon dolphin.
Step 8
Draw a horizontal line at the bottom of the dolphin’s body to detail the belly. Marine creatures often have a light belly so they blend in with sunlight when predators see them from below.
Step 9
Color your cartoon dolphin. In our example we gave him different shades of blue. Real dolphins can be gray, cream with spots, or with black and yellow stripes. Some river dolphins are even pale pink in color!
