Step 1:

Draw eyes
This step involves drawing three circles of different sizes. The first should be the largest size and the size that you want the eye to be. Second is the student. It should be inside the first larger circle and it should be oriented in the direction you want the squirrel to look in. Finally, add a third small circle behind the pupil that acts as the light reflected from the squirrel’s eyes.

Step 2:

Head and Ears
Start with a basic circle going around the eye; Make sure the eye is positioned where you want it when you draw the squirrel’s head. In front of the squirrel’s face, instead of just completing the circle, indent some and create some kind of circular gradient to accentuate the squirrel’s nose and forehead. The squirrel’s ears are shaped like a rounded pentagon. Draw a small straw house or a hut for each ear. For the front ear, remember to draw the inside of the ear by drawing a smaller rounded pentagon inside the ear.

Step 3:

Create back and legs
The squirrel has a bent posture; I like to think of it as drawing a sideways smiley face. Draw the smiling face tilted to the side starting at the back of the head and curving around to form the squirrel’s back. At the bottom, continue with a horizontal line to the left. This line will be the bottom of the squirrel’s feet. Curl up and around the horizontal line to finish the foot shape.

Step 4:

Perfect body
Arms start at an angle down from the head and bend around with three little fingers before moving back up and toward the body. Next, draw a curved line up from the foot to represent the knee; think of it as a kind of angled scowl. Finally, draw a seam from the armpit to the knee.

Step 5:

Draw that bushy tail
To draw a large bushy tail, you only need two lines. The first should be a gradual curve starting from the back of the squirrel. The second line should be a long wavy line that meets the first to form the tip of the tail. The second line should swoop down and join the instep. Also, in this step, add a short line that runs from the squirrel’s wrist to the knee to round out the belly and add a curved detail along the back.

Step 6:

Add detail line
This simple step will add two detail lines to the squirrel’s tail. To do this, add a curved line on the inside of the tail that reflects the outer edge of the bushy tail. The second line should come up from the back and be rounded to reflect the shorter side of the tail closer to the back of the squirrel.

Step 7:

End with Acorn
Complete this adorable squirrel drawing by adding an acorn to the outstretched leg. Start with the top of the acorn by drawing a half oval with corners below the chin and above the hand. Draw a curved line going down from the top of the acorn on each side. On the left side, the curve will be uninterrupted, but on the right side of the oak tree will be a line interrupted by the squirrel’s arm. Two lines will meet at the base of a point. Add the stem on top of the acorn and a cute little heart in the middle. You should now have an adorable cartoon squirrel holding an acorn.
