The Ren & Stimpy Show (also known simply as Ren & Stimpy) is an American animated children’s television series created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi and originally produced by Spümcø for Nickelodeon, which aired from August 11, 1991 to October 20, 1996. The series follows the adventures of the title characters: Ren Höek, an emotionally unstable and sick Chihuahua. social disease; and Stimpy, a docile cat with dimples.
The Ren & Stimpy Show was one of Nickelodeon’s first original animated series — called “Nicktoons” —alongside Rugrats and Doug. This controversy contributed to a shift in production staff with Nickelodeon’s Standards and Practices department. Receiving negative reviews from critics and fans alike, with many calling it one of the worst animated TV shows of all time, the series only aired for three episodes before being cancelled, with three additional volumes released straight to DVD. On August 5, 2020, Comedy Central announced that it had ordered the production of a second revival of the series without Kricfalusi’s participation.
