Step 1
Begin sketching King Kong by drawing the ape’s face. Use curved lines to draw the rounded shapes of the eyebrows, nostrils, and open mouth. Use additional curved lines to create an outline above the eyebrows, enclose the eyes and pupils, outline the nostrils, and outline the teeth along the upper jaw.
Step 2
Sketch the beginning of your King Kong cartoon. Use curved lines to outline the head and shoulders, the tongue, the open side of the mouth, the teeth along the lower jaw, the hairy jawline, and the ears.
Step 3
Draw the animal’s muscular chest and abdomen. Use curved lines to outline the pectoral muscles and the sides of the abs. Connect the lines at the bottom using a series of short lines that meet in jagged points, indicating fur. Outline the muscles by drawing lines down the middle of the torso.
Step 4
Draw the ape’s huge arms. Use curved lines to sketch the upper arm, lower arm, and curved fingers. At the elbows and wrists, use a series of lines that meet in jagged points to create the look of fur.
Step 5
Draw the remaining arm, erasing if necessary. Again, use curved lines to outline the upper arm, lower arm, and curved fingers. At the elbows and wrists, use a series of lines that meet in jagged points to create a furry look.
Step 6
Draw the sides and bottom of the body using curved lines.
Step 7
Draw the legs. Use overlapping curved lines to sketch the edges of the legs. Connect them at the ankles using a series of curved lines that meet in jagged points.
Step 8
Draw the other leg. Again, use overlapping curved lines to sketch the edges of the legs. Connect them at the ankles using a series of curved lines that meet in jagged points. Draw the knee outline using short lines arranged in an open circle.
Step 9
Complete your King Kong sketch by drawing the feet and toes. Use overlapping curved lines to sketch the toes and place the toenail at the tip of each toe.
Step 10
Color your King Kong cartoon. We colored it black and grey, the typical colors of silverback gorillas.
