Step 1:

Step 1
Start by sketching the anime girl’s face. Use a “U” shaped line to outline the chin and cheeks. Notice the slight point of the chin.
Step 2
Next, you draw the hair that falls across the forehead. For each curl, use a pair of curved lines that meet at sharp points. Note that the locks are of different lengths.
Step 3
Draw the first half of the hood and wide rim
Step 4
Draw cat ears, erase as needed. For each ear, seal a curved triangle that sticks out from the edge of the head. Notice the curvature of the hair created by a curve at the base of one ear.
Draw a line down the center of each ear consisting of a series of short lines that meet at jagged points. This details the inner ear, as well as the short lines giving it a furry texture. Then, draw ponytails on each side of the head, using long, curved lines to form the curls. Hair texture with long lines according to its length.
Step 5
Draw the headband and bow, erasing as needed. For the bow, wrap the circle of the knot with an uneven shape on each side. Add dimension using a curve. Then, stretch a pair of curved lines over the top, forming the strip. This will end up in a long curve.
Step 6
Extend the two downward diverging curves to form the neck. Connect them at the bottom and wrap the neck with a pair of strings to form a choker-style necklace.
Step 7
Use curved lines to outline the sides and sleeves of the garment. Use additional curves to indicate creases in the fabric.
Step 8
Draw a line down from each sleeve to form the arms.
Step 9

Step 1
First, you should lightly sketch an oval… or more specifically an upside down egg.
Step 2
Now draw 2 guide lines on the face. Draw one of the lines through the center of the face and then draw another line between the midline and the chin.
Step 3
Draw a mark between the vertical guides and each side of the face. This mark represents the upper part of the eye/pupil.
Step 4
Now draw a vertical guide line down from each eye dash you drew. Then draw the mouth in between those 2 lines.
Step 5
Now draw the eyes. Notice that the iris is in the middle of the red line and the lid is on the horizontal center line. Place the tip of the eyebrow a little higher than the eye.
Step 6
Now draw the other eye the same way you did the other eye. Notice that the eyes are separated by the width of the eyes. Also draw a line down from one of the eyebrows. Draw the nose above the 2nd horizontal line and below.
Step 7
Now notice that the ears are drawn between the first and second horizontal lines… in other words, the ears are placed between the top of the eyes and the bottom of the nose. Also, add details to the nose and start drawing details, such as the pupils to the eyes.
Step 8
Notice that now the hair has been pulled inward and the girl’s face is starting to look like a girl/woman.
It is taught that the edge of the mouth matches the edge of the pupil of the eye. However, I think it would be better to line the edge of the mouth with the iris inside as seen above.

Step 1
Start by drawing an irregular triangle to the sides to form the upper beak. Draw a similar shape just below the upper mine to create the lower beak.
Remember, the upper tip should be larger and more pointed than the lower beak, as shown in the illustration above.
Remember that the mine should be placed on the top left of your paper. To ensure this, create reference lines by drawing an intersecting horizontal and vertical line on your paper.
This tutorial will divide your paper into four rectangular blanks. The space in the upper left corner is where you should draw the beak.
Step 2
Draw a curved shape around the beak that we drew in the previous step. This outlines the head of the pigeon. When drawn correctly, the figure should look quite similar to a hook.
Since the pigeon faces to one side, the beak should be on the left edge of the pigeon’s head.
Step 3
Extend the lines of the head shape by drawing an uneven oval that connects directly to the head. This creates an outline of the pigeon’s body.
Remember, use light strokes when sketching. Avoid pressing down too hard with the pencil so you can easily erase any parts of the contour later that you don’t need.
Step 4
Draw a wide, U-shaped curve at the front of the bottom part of the pigeon’s body. Note that the U-shaped curve must have diagonal sides and a flat bottom. This forms the right leg of the pigeon.
Don’t forget to remove the border that overlaps the inside of the leg. This helps to keep the structure of the pigeon more delicate and most importantly keeps your drawing neat and orderly.
Step 5
Repeat the previous step on the opposite side of the pigeon’s lower body.
This forms the pigeon’s left leg, which is located at the back because the pigeon is facing to the side.
Step 6
Draw three oblongs connected with curved ends to create feathers.
These feathers must be joined together to form a rectangle on the pigeon’s lower back.
Step 7
Draw an oval with a slightly pointed bottom on the side of the pigeon’s body. Then draw diagonal lines at the bottom of the wings to create the illusion of feathers.
This also adds texture on the wing, making it look soft and realistic.
Don’t forget to erase any lines on the pigeon’s body that overlap the inside of its wings!
Step 8
Below the pigeon’s right foot, draw a paw with four claws.
This forms the pigeon’s right foot, as shown in the illustration above.
Step 9
Repeat the previous step underneath the opposite leg to create the left clawed foot. At this point, both legs of the pigeon are complete.
Then draw a circle at the top of the pigeon’s head, next to the beak. This outlines the dove’s eyes.
Then draw a smaller circle inside the eye to create the pupil. Finally, add shade to the entire eye while leaving the pupil unobscured.
After completing this step, your pigeon drawing should now be complete. All that’s missing is a range of colors to make your pigeon colorful
Step 10
For this tutorial on how to draw a Japanese flower, we will start with the first flower that will be attached to the branch on which the subsequent flowers will also be attached.
To draw this flower, we will draw five petals, and each petal will have a rounded square.
At the center of the flower there will be a small circle that will have lines extending from it. Each of these lines will have a smaller circle at the end.
Now that you’ve drawn this part of the flower, we’ll then draw some thin, angular shapes for the branch it’s attached to.

Step 1
We will start this tutorial on how to draw a snow leopard by drawing the outline of the head and some details on the face.
For the edges of the face, we will use several smaller curves that connect to each other. This will help make the face look nice and hairy.
The ears will be quite small and they can be drawn with some smoother curves. Add some rounded shapes for the inner ear, and then we can draw some details on the face.
Draw some small eyes with lines extending down from them, and then we can finish with the nose and mouth. Once all of these have been drawn, we can move on to the second step.
Step 2
Now draw the first leg and add some points
For the second part of your snow leopard drawing, we will draw the top of the back along with the first part.
For the back, just stretch a smooth curve from the top back. This will curve down to start forming the first move.
The leg will be pretty and quite long, and then it will end at the little round toes of the foot.
Before we continue, we’ll also start adding some spots to the leopard. These can take some patience to do, so make sure to take them slowly!
Draw some dots on the face and then you can draw some small circles all over the other parts of the leopard that you have drawn so far.
Step 3
Draw the chest and next legs of the snow leopard
This animal has a rather hairy chest which helps to keep warm and this is what we will be drawing along with the legs next in this step of the how to draw a snow leopard tutorial.
For the chest, we’ll use lots of small curves to give it the feathery look we want. Be sure to add more curve detail to the inside of the bust once you have the contour.
Then you can draw the next leg. This one will be a bit further forward, so it will look bigger than the previous one.
Make sure you also use a crease for the border, as we’ll be aiming to make it look like feathers.
Step 4
Next, draw the tail and the starting point of the next leg
We will aim to add the final details of this snow leopard drawing in this and the next steps!
For this step, the first thing we will do is draw the tail that bends to the left. Like many of the other parts of this snow leopard, we’ll be using some bumpy lines to give its tail a fur texture.
Unlike common leopards, which have a thin tail and when they sleep, this tail will be very thick. You can also add some point details to it.
The last thing to do in this step is to draw the outline of the last leg, and then we can move on to the final strokes in the next step.
Step 5
Add the final details to your snow leopard drawing
You are now ready to complete the final details in this step of our how to draw a snow leopard tutorial.
First, complete the outline of the final you started with in the previous step, then add the usual details to it.
Once that’s done, finish off by adding a few smaller details to the rest of the snow leopard and then you’re ready for the final step!

The spots are quite dark gray, but otherwise the gray will be quite light.
When coloring your own images, be sure to use whatever shade of color and art medium you feel is best for it.

Step 1
Body structure
The most important step in drawing the body is to first get the correct proportions.
When drawing anime, the proportions may be slightly different from the actual human body but the same principles still apply.
A good way to measure the body is to use the head. A normal body with a head included can be about 7-8 heads tall. In anime, the heads tend to be drawn larger than they really are, so for this tutorial we’ll be using 6.5 heads.
Start outlining the initial proportions by drawing the head and work your way down to the rest of the body.
A common way to show joints is to draw circles. You don’t have to do this, but it can help.
The distance between the torso and the legs is equal to the height of the head and torso combined.
The arms are slightly longer than the body (note that the arms in this example are being raised slightly).
Also note that the distal part of the body (especially the arms) will be smaller than the part closer to the viewer due to the angle of view.
Perspective drawing tutorial for beginners and how it relates to Anime
The blue lines in the example above are guidelines intended to help you draw.
As mentioned, circles help indicate joints and also act as dividers helping to create space for different parts of the body.
The oval drawn on the head helps to draw the shape of the top of the head. The reason you want to draw the whole oval is that it makes it a lot easier to see if you’ve made a mistake. If you draw only one half, you may find that it doesn’t look right when you draw the second half.
The lines on the body help define its 3D shape. The midline is used to aid perspective because in three quarters of view, the farther side gets a little narrower then the closer side The remaining line helps determine where the front of the body ends and the side starts. Basically, you want to draw the original shape of the body as some kind of block with sharp corners.
Step 2
Draw facial features

There are a lot of tutorials on drawing facial features on this page, so we won’t go into details on how to draw an anime-style face.
A few things to keep in mind is that since the face in this tutorial is drawn in 3/4 view due to perspective, the features on the far side of the face will be drawn very small and slightly lowered. You can ignore this small size variation unless you are drawing a very large face close-up.
When the far side of the face arches away, the eyebrows and eyes in the distance appear to be “shrunk” horizontally compared to the side closer to the viewer.
Step 3
Draw hair

For this particular hairstyle, draw the hair along the contour of the top of the head and curl it slightly in different directions as it hangs down.
Generally when drawing anime hair, you’ll want to draw it in bunches. Try and change the sizes and orientations they point to for a more natural look.
It can also be very helpful to think of the hair as divided into front, sides, and back sections, especially for these or similar styles.

Step 1
Draw the back of the peacock

On one side of the orange add the stem (small green end). Draw it with a star-like shape where the ends of the star pointing more towards the viewer will be slightly larger/longer. Inside the starting shape, draw a small bump as shown in the example.
Going away from the stem, add a few more curves to give the oranges some of the “wrinkles” they usually have around that area.
Step 3
At this stage, you can draw orange lines with a black pen, highlighter, or darker pencil lines. Then you can also add a little texture to it with some little curves that almost look like dots. Add them to the opposite side of the stalk along the bottom right side of the orange.

Step 1
For your first step in this guide on how to draw a cat, you’ll want to draw a circle in pencil. It can help to use a drawing compass to draw a perfect circle if you’re struggling to do one freehand.
This circle will serve as a guide for you as you start to draw in the outline of the head.
Once you have the circle, carefully draw in the lines that start to make up the head of your cat drawing, using the reference image as a guide.
If you’re having a hard time drawing in the outline, you could use a pencil to do this part as well and then use a pen to go over it when you’re happy.
Step 2
Rub out the pencil circle
Now that you’ve drawn in the beginning of your cat drawing’s head, you can erase the pencil circle that you drew as a guide.
If you went over it in pen, make sure that the pen ink is dry before you erase the pencil!
Step 3
Next, draw in the ears
We have the beginning of the head of your cat drawing done, so now we will add in the ears.
For the right side ear, draw in a slightly curved triangle without a bottom connecting at the space you left in the head outline. Draw in another triangle for the inner ear.
Next, draw in the curved ear shape for the left ear as it appears in the reference picture and then draw in the inner ear.
Step 4
Now draw in the first leg
The head outline is now complete for your cat drawing, and next we will be drawing in the chest and first leg of the cat.
Carefully draw in a curved line as it appears in the reference image to form the chest. Draw in a straighter line for the leg and give it a curved line for the foot.
Finally, you’ll need to draw another line coming up from the foot to form the other side of the leg. This part can be tricky so make sure to consult the reference picture closely!
Step 5
Next you will be adding Another leg
For the next step in this guide on how to draw a cat, you will need to add a zigzag type line above the left leg that you’ve already drawn in.
You will then draw in the right leg, which will look almost identical to the left leg except for the fact that it extends higher on the right side.
Step 6
Add in the back and two remaining legs
You’re very close to finishing your cat drawing now, so for this next step you should draw in a curved line down from the neck.
This is another step where you should closely follow the reference image as a guide.
Once you have the back drawn in, you can add in the two back feet as seen in the picture. Don’t forget to add the toe divides!
Step 7
Now draw in the tail and final leg detail
For this next step, you can draw in the tail which will take on a curvy sausage shape.
Once you have the tail drawn in, the only remaining thing is to draw in a curved line from the back foot to make the cat’s leg. With this step, your cat drawing is almost done!
Step 8
Add the face and final details
You’ve almost finished your journey of learning how to draw a cat, but your cat drawing needs a face!
You can start by drawing in a nose with a smiley cat mouth extending beneath it as you can see in the reference picture.
You can then draw in a jagged line above the nose to suggest a snout. Then, you can draw in six lines to form the cat’s whiskers.
Finally, we’ll be adding in the eyes. The eyes in the reference picture are made up of a series of circles within one another with some eyelashes.
You can draw it in this style, or if it’s proving difficult you could use two circles with a dot in each for a simpler yet equally cute look!
Step 9
Finish it off with some color
The last step is one of the most fun in the process of learning how to draw a cat, and that is to add in some color!

Step 1
To start our guide on how to draw an eyebrow, we are going to draw a guide shape to help us draw the eyebrow correctly later.
To start, you need to use a lighter pencil to draw the shape you see in the reference image.
This shape is made up of curved and straight lines, and we’re using a pencil for now because you can erase it later. The reference image will show you what it should look like before proceeding.
Step 2 – Now you can start drawing ears
Eyebrows are not made up of a solid shape, but rather many smaller hairs. For this stage of your eyebrow design, you can start adding some of these hairs.
Using the outline you drew in the previous step, carefully start adding a few small straight lines from the left corner of the eyebrow.
They shouldn’t be too close together and the reference image will give you an idea of how much space there should be between them.
Step 3 – Then you can add more hairs
In this next step of our guide on how to draw an eyebrow, we have removed the pencil outline of the eyebrows to show you how it will look in the end, but I recommend that you keep the outline until the end of your drawing.
For now, carefully continue adding more lines like the ones you’ve already drawn that extend further along the eyebrow.
Step 4 – Continue adding more eyebrow hairs
We won’t continue to extend with hair for this stage of your eyebrow design.
Instead, just start adding more hairs like the ones you drew in the top corner of your brow planning picture.
This will help keep the brow shape and hair flow consistent as you go.
Step 5 – Next, let’s draw more hairs
Your eyebrow design is starting to fall into place, so let’s keep this momentum going! For this step, start drawing more hairlines extending from the part you drew earlier and extending it all the way to the eyebrow.
As you can see from the reference image and the guidelines you drew in step 1, the eyebrow width gets thinner over time.
Step 6 – You can now draw the upper eyebrow hairs
We’ve drawn the left and right sides of your eyebrow, so for the next steps in our guide on how to draw an eyebrow, we’ll start joining them with a midsection.
For this step, simply add thinner hairlines extending from the top of the left part of the eyebrow and extending along the top of your guideline towards the upper right side.
Step 7 – Next, draw the final details
Your eyebrow design is so close to being done! As you can see from your own drawing, there is an empty space left, and I’m sure you can guess what we’re going to do in that space!
Simply add another section of hair to this space as shown in the reference image to complete the eyebrow.
Once you’re happy with how it looks, all you have to do is erase the pencil guide shape you drew in step one.
If you used an eyebrow hair pen, be sure to let the ink dry before you start erasing the pencil lines!
Step 8 – Now finish your eyebrow with some color
With the last hairs added and the pencil erased, your eyebrow design is almost completely finished! It only remains to add a nice color to it.
In our reference image, we also showed where the eye would be below the eyebrow. If you are feeling very creative, you can use this image to draw an eye under your eyebrow!
Once you’ve decided on some colors and additional details for the eyebrow, the last thing to decide is what art mediums you’ll use to finish it off!
Whether you choose a painterly approach with acrylics or watercolors or prefer the bright color details of colored pens and pencils, we know it will look great! We can’t wait to see what colors you choose.

Step 1
For the first step in this guide on how to draw an ear, we’ll start off pretty simple. Using the reference image as a guide, we’ll start by drawing a curvy vertical line.
This will form the outer edge of the ear, and once you’ve drawn it, we can move on to the next part!
Step 2 – Add more to the edge of the ear
Now that you’ve drawn the outer edge of your ear, you can extend it a bit more in this next step.
All you need to do for this step is to extend the liner so that it curves more towards the inside of the ear. The reference image will give you a good idea of how long it should be.
Step 3 – Start drawing in the inner part of the ear
In step 3 of this guide on how to draw an ear, we will start moving away from the outer ear and start with the inner part of the ear.
The inner ear is the most complex part of the drawing, so we’ll focus on how to make drawing easier in the next few steps.
To start, simply extend the line coming from the upper curve of the ear even further towards the center. Then you can add a very curvy line near the center of the ear as it appears in the picture.
Step 4 – You can now add more inner ear
To further draw the inner ear, for this step of drawing your ear you just need to add another curved line near the center.
This line will start near the lower loop of the ear and then extend to the upper loop.
There are some small bends and twists, so don’t be afraid to refer closely to the reference image to help you draw it!
Step 5 – Draw a few more lines for the inner ear
Your ear design is really starting to take shape now!
For this step, simply draw a sharply curved line from the top of the line you drew in the previous step and extending slightly to the end of the edge of the ear.
Step 6 – Finish the final details of your ear
With this 9th step of our guide on how to draw an ear, you are almost done! As you can see in your drawing, the many lines we added suddenly start to look like an ear.
We just need two more lines to complete your drawing, so let’s go ahead and add them now.
For the first line, simply start a line from the top curve you drew in the previous step and bring it down to the bottom of the ear.
Finally, add another slightly curved line going up the inner edge of the ear as it appears in the picture.
With these lines added, your ear drawing only has one more step until it’s finished!
Step 7 – Finish your ear drawing with color
Ears can be tricky to draw, but at this step, you’ve nailed it! Although that’s quite an achievement, there is still one more thing to do before I’m done properly, but luckily it’s a fun step!
Your ear design needs some color, and this is your chance to show us how creative you can be!
We’ve only shown one way to color your ear, but you should feel free to experiment and use whatever colors you like!
Choosing the color is just one way to customize your ear design, and there’s more you can do too.
A fun thing you could try is adding jewelry to the ear. If you have any earrings you like, you can draw them on this ear!
Or, you can unleash your inner jewelry maker and create some stunning earrings for them!
You can also have fun trying different artistic mediums to color your ear. My suggestion would be to use watercolor paints, as the softer look they produce would be great on the skin.
This is just a suggestion though, and you can have a great time using any of your favorite tools and art mediums to complete your drawing!

Step 1: draw eyeballs
Lightly draw or draw a circle for the eyeball. It doesn’t have to be perfect as we will use it minimally while building our eyes and then remove it altogether. In case you were wondering, my circle is 6cm in diameter.
Step 2: draw the cornea
Draw a small bump or cornea in the direction you want the eye to face. I want to face the right side, so I’m going to draw my cornea from the right side. In terms of size, the length of the cornea is roughly half the diameter of the eyeball (or the length of the radius).
Step 3: draw the iris and the pupil
Now draw the iris creating a curve tangent to the upper and lower parts of the cornea. Make sure your work is light so you can make changes easily.
Remove the part of the eyeball that crosses the iris/cornea. Then, inside the iris, draw a narrow oval for the pupil.
Step 4: Draw the eyelids
Now let’s draw the eyelids. Starting from the center of the eyeball, gently draw a curved line for the upper eyelid. It can partially cover your iris or fully expose it, then wrap the eyelid around the other side of your eyeball.
To draw the lower eyelid, create a curved line where the eyelids meet, then continue sweeping down the iris.
An example of a narrow eye (The iris is more exposed at the bottom than the top. Normally when we open our eyes, the iris is most exposed at the bottom, not the top.) So if you want to draw a narrow eye, keep this in mind: okay, move on! Just above the upper eyelid, draw the crease of the eyelid.
You can use the eyelid shape as a reference or draw a crease with a more unique shape. Connect this pencil line to your upper lash line using a slight curve.
To finish the bottom flap, I draw an almost straight line down, but you can angle it outward or inward if you want. You can add wrinkles to the corners of your eyes or the tips of your eyelids if you wish. An example of a protruding eye.
Tip: If you roll the eyelid skin very close to the eyeball, you can create a bulging eye effect: Once done, erase the circular guide and the parts of the iris that are out of the line of sight .
Step 5: Position the eyebrows
Now let’s see where to put the eyebrows. Lines from left to right: tail, arch and top of the eyebrows.
Draw a very thin line at the tip of your eye, another line from the edge of the cornea, then a perpendicular line away from the eye, similar to the image above.
They are for the tail, the arch and the tips of the eyebrows. Eyebrows come in all shapes and sizes, so don’t worry too much about this part. These are only rudimentary instructions.
Now that we have 3 guides, we can draw our eyebrows more easily – use them as rough paths/boundaries. You can draw your eyebrows lower or higher than mine if you want, and you can draw as thick as you want.
Keep your pencil strokes extremely light so your outline doesn’t come out later – This will take away from the realistic effect we’re looking for. When you are satisfied with the shape of your eyebrows, remove the 3 rules above. We’ll add the eyebrows later!
Step 6: Draw the highlight / reflection
Let’s add some highlights in the eyes. Highlights are the lightest areas of the drawing. The highlight can come from a nearby window or any light source.
Here are some sample shapes: These shapes are all curved because the eyeball is curved, so a rectangular window, for example, might look like a C-shape.
You can create your own shapes and stretch them over the eyeball, covering as much or as little space as you want. If you wish, you can add accent obstacles, such as the silhouette of a person standing in front of the window or curtains.
You can even create a gradient on your highlights to show the difference in light intensity. Anyway, once your highlights are drawn, erase all the lines that cross them, clean them up. I like to use my kneaded eraser for this, rolling the end until it’s pointy, then pulling out the graphite.
Here’s a close-up: you can even flatten your eraser to work at an angle: during the drawing process, try to keep the highlights as clean as possible so they can stand out.
Step 7: Shade the pupils
Time for some shade! Let’s start with the pupil, shade it very dark, since it’s actually a hole in the iris.
Step 8: Shade the iris
Next, we are going to shade the iris. Remember to be very careful around the highlights as we want to keep their edges sharp. You can make the shadow as light or dark as you want without darkening the pupil.
I recommend blending the iris now, using a paper towel or a blending stump for example, to make it smoother before moving on to the next step, or you can skip blending if you wish.
I combine all my drawing at the end to keep the Youtube video short. But I highly recommend blending as you go because it’s much easier that way and you can avoid messing up your work in the process.
I shade the light values, blend them, then add shadows, I try to blend only the shadows so I don’t spill the darker graphite into the lighter areas. Then finally I add details. If I need to blend after the details have been added, I blend around them, being very careful not to blur or smudge my detail work.
My imaginary light source is coming from the top right, so I’m making the top of the iris darker because the shape of the iris is recessed, so the top of the iris is actually facing the light, while the lower part of the iris points towards the light.
As I go up, I apply less and less pressure to achieve a gradient, as the concave shape of the iris begins to curve / towards the light.
Alternatively, you can shade the upper part of the iris even more to create a shadow from the eyelid.
What I like to do is make the outline of the iris darker than the body of the iris to create more contrast, but that’s entirely up to you.
The big highlight is too strong for my taste, so I’m going to make it more subtle by painting a gradient over it, making it dark at the bottom and lighter at the top, like my example showed you earlier:
When you’re done shading the iris, make sure the outline of each highlight is no longer visible. If it remains, you may need to erase it a bit or paint the surrounding area a bit darker to make it blend in/disappear.
Alright, this is the quick and easy version for shading the iris. If you want more details, you can apply the following steps…
Step 9: More detailed version of Iris
This part is optional, but to make the iris more interesting you can add some small details like lines extending outward from the center. Use your pencil and eraser to draw these lines.
If you want to draw straight lines, you can flatten your kneaded eraser, then simply press and lift the graphite or lightly rub it. If you curve your lines closer to the pupil (the hole inside the iris), you can make the iris look more 3D.
Try slanting or randomly spacing some of your lines and changing the thickness to make them look more natural. An example of a meandering line. You can use a kneading eraser or a solid eraser for this. You can draw doodle shapes instead if you want.
I’m drawing this example on the same iris, but I would recommend going with just one style or merging the two. An eraser will definitely work too, just make sure it’s sharp enough. You can cut the eraser to make it as neat as you want. Also suitable for overlapping squares.
Next, use a pencil to darken some of the spaces between your squares to add depth and contrast. These lines and squares are both part of the iris, so we’ll need to shade them the same way we shaded the iris before adding them. Remember we shaded the top part of the iris? I do it again, except this time, lighter.
Oh, and shade the outside of your pupil if you want the area to appear deeper. Anyway, this is the detailed version of the iris. Of course, you can stick with the simplified version.
Step 10: Blend the whites of the eyes
Now polish the whites of the eyes. They’re called the whites of the eyes, but they’re not exactly white, so don’t be afraid to shade them in.
Refer to your light source (mine is top right) – Shade the eyeball lightest where it faces the light and darkest where it faces the light.
For very smooth shading, try to keep the pencil strokes close together to eliminate gaps.
Step 11: Shade the rest of the skin
Let’s paint the rest of the skin, then we’ll move on to the eyelashes.
Starting at the crease of the eyelid, I will lighten as I move away from it (as the skin curves and turns towards the light).
Tip: If your outline is still visible after shading around your eyes, try lightening them or darkening your shadows until the outline disappears.
To shade the brow area, I’ll go back to the top right light source and figure out which areas of the skin are directly facing the light and which are facing it.
I color the right part of the eyebrow lighter than the left because it faces the light directly.
You can shade the brow area, but you want to set any brow shape you like.
Step 12: Shade the rest of the skin
Let’s paint the rest of the skin, then we’ll move on to the eyelashes. Starting at the crease of the eyelid, I will lighten as I move away from it (as the skin curves and turns towards the light).
Tip: If your outline is still visible after shading around your eyes, try lightening them or darkening your shadows until the outline disappears.
To shade the brow area, I’ll go back to the top right light source and figure out which areas of the skin are directly facing the light and which are facing it.
I color the right part of the eyebrow lighter than the left because it faces the light directly. You can shade the brow area, but you want to set any brow shape you like.
Step 13: Draw the eyelashes
Alright, time to hook up. But before painting hair, I suggest you mix your shadow mode now because it will be quite difficult to mix all the individual lashes.
To draw eyelashes, we first need to sharpen the pencil. I work with a mechanical pencil, so it’s pretty sharp already. Practice drawing your eyelashes until your strokes become fairly consistent. Your eyelashes may curl more or less. Just make sure the ends of the lashes are tapered.
You can use strobe motion to achieve this effect. If you have trouble drawing smooth curves, rotating your sketchbook can help. Let’s start with the upper eyelid, creating eyelashes that grow from the lower edge.
Tip: Avoid drawing too many eyelashes parallel to each other. If you gather them together, you can create lashes that look more natural and less structured: There are several things you can do to make your lashes more unique and random. Like changing the length, distance or number of curves.
Keep doing this until you reach the corner of your eye. Eyelashes near the corner of the eye are usually shorter, thinner and therefore appear lighter. Don’t forget to add a few lashes along the other (far) side of the eyelid. Moving on to the bottom cap, dust the lashes along the ridge we created earlier (put them in a random zig-zag pattern).
I like to draw these lashes much shorter and wider than the top lashes. You can paint lighter than mine if you want a more subtle look.
Again, avoid obvious stereotypes. You can draw the eyelashes yourself, join them at the ends or cross them. You can also change the spacing, length and thickness of your hair. Don’t forget to pull the lashes along the other (far) side of the eyelid 🙂
Step 14: Draw the eyebrows
Once you’re satisfied, it’s time to work on the brows. The hair growth pattern seems confusing, but let’s analyze it. We can draw a line across the eyebrow to separate it into two areas. I drew a line from the top right to the leftmost. This line is different for everyone because there are so many different eyebrow styles. In zone 1 (lower part), we will pull the hairs upwards, then when we do the left side, they will point more towards the tail of the eyebrows. In zone 2 (upper part), the hairs are mainly directed towards the tail of the eyebrow. When the hairs of the two areas meet, I prefer to glue them together instead of crossing them, but you can do whatever you want. Draw a line through the eyebrows to separate the 2 areas. Alright, let’s draw a blurry line for our eyebrows to separate the 2 areas using short, disconnected pencil strokes because we don’t want the line to come out at the end. Then, with light strokes, roughly draw the hairs in area 1 while staying within the boundary.
Step 15: Wet your eyes
To prevent the eyes from getting wet, we can add water along the bottom of the eyeball. Take your solid or pointed eraser, flatten it and erase a thin space along the eyeball where it meets the lower eyelid. If the water flow does not show up well, shade around it a little. The (increased) contrast will highlight it. Or you can use a white gel pen or correction fluid to introduce some bright white value.
Step 16: Mix your eye designs
If you’ve been blending your drawing throughout the tutorial or aren’t interested in blending, feel free to skip the section on how to make the drawing stand out. Make sure your shadow is as smooth as possible.
Ok, before blending we need to make sure our shadows are as smooth as possible, this means there are no gaps between our strokes and all speckle areas are minimized to the best possible level .
Before and after blending with a paper towel and strain blending. Blend one part of your eye at a time, using a clean blending stub, tissue paper, a pointed tip, or a fine-bristle brush (depending on your preference). I like to blend the highlights with the shadows to avoid unwanted spots. In large areas of the drawing, I wrapped the fabric around my finger and gently stroked it from the lightest to the darkest areas. Blend as much as possible until the drawing becomes nice and smooth.
Be very careful when blending details around a job like eyelashes and eyebrows, being careful not to blur/smudge them. A blending tool with a pointed tip like a blending stump will work well for getting into tight spaces, blending exactly where you want it. But you can also use a folded tissue: carefully blend around the lashes with a pointed-tip blending tool (I used a folded tissue). As you blend, follow the direction of each lash, being careful not to smudge them. If you’re using paper towels and need to get into a tight spot, fold your fabric using fewer layers, pull it tight, or you can blur the area with a pencil. sharp, essentially filling in white spots or grooves on the surface of the paper. When the handkerchief gets too dirty, fold it using a clean place or just rotate it to a cleaner place.
Tip: You can remove excess graphite with a lightly kneaded gouache eraser (find out how to make this eraser here). Here is how I removed the speckled areas to make the drawing smoother. Areas that don’t have enough graphite can be filled in with the dirty blend tool (which also blends the drawing at the same time).
Ok, note! So we covered that earlier, but if you still have a visible border around the cornea and you can’t remove it because it looks weird without the border, you can make it blend in by shading the skin just outside just enough to make the outline disappear. Now the edge of the cornea is no longer visible because it has merged with the background.
Step 17: Bring out the designs
If your drawing doesn’t stand out enough, try cleaning up the shiniest parts of each highlight or use a white gel pen/correction fluid to make the highlights crisp white.
You can also shade the darker areas of your drawing even more. Or you can add more detail to the iris to make it stand out more, like in the example I showed earlier (in the section called “More detailed version of the iris”).
I also tracked and blended more to make the drawing smoother.
Step 18: Additional Tips
If you want to draw small wrinkles in the skin like I did here along the upper eyelid, squeeze your kneaded eraser flat then press gently along the eyelid, removing a very small amount of charcoal. conduct. Step 1
Head outline Draw the shape of the head from the side. You can use this guide to know the ratio. Don’t forget to draw both the ears and the neck in this step. I used a 4B pencil so you can see my lines clearly. If you end up worried about the lines showing all the way through, use an HB pencil.
2nd step
Hair Length Decide on the length of hair you want to paint. In this example, the hair on the back and sides is the shortest, while the hair on the top of the head is the longest. Once you have decided on the length, take a blunt 4B pencil and use the shading technique to shape the hair. Make sure the distance between the hair and the head is appropriate.
Step 3
Parting the Top Hair from the Sides Erase any outlines you created for the head, then use the HB pencil to create an outline that separates the side hairs from the top hairs.
Step 4
Overall Highlight If you don’t want to lose the overall highlight, use an HB pencil to shade the areas of the hair you want the light to hit, then shade around those highlights. You can shade with just one tone or go deeper and introduce darker tones. I used a blunt 4B pencil for this.
Step 5
Grouping, Layering, Line and Shading If you followed step 4, use the 4B pencil to layer groups of hair starting with the swirl at the back of the head. If you haven’t done step 4, use an HB pencil. Be sure to always keep the overall direction/flow in mind when drawing. You can include an entire side of the head or individual parts. I stop as soon as I approach the area where I want the most light. When you start shading, first define the darkest areas before drawing each hair (pointed 6B).
If you’re going through an area where you want most of the light to hit, don’t use tones that are too dark. After defining the main shadows, start drawing each strand of hair. Naturally, you’ll start dividing large groups into smaller ones, and you’ll find ways to incorporate overlapping strands and other unique and interesting patterns. For each hair I used a 0.5mm 4B mechanical pencil.
Step 6
Repeat Continue working around these highlights. When drawing the nape of the neck, curl the strands towards the neck. For areas near the back of the head that don’t get much light (your light source may be different), focus more on midtones and shadows instead of trying to define highlights/shines. It’s okay if the hair doesn’t come out.
Step 7
Grouping, layering, flowing and shading Working in small sections at a time, I drew large to medium groups of hair layer by layer. Working in layers helps me carefully plan the direction and flow of my hair. In the image above, I’ve shaded the main groups of hair, making some areas darker than others to show some depth.
Since this is the area where I want the most light, I used a 0.5mm HB mechanical pencil and a 2B pencil to draw each hair.
Step 8
Correct/Add Highlights If you’ve shaded too dark or just want to bring out the highlights, roll your kneaded eraser into a ball, squeeze a section so it’s flat and neat, then run the eraser along the areas you you want to highlight as if you were combing white hair. The left image is before deletion and the right image is after.
Step 9
Grouping and Layering In step 2, if you recall, I wanted the hair on top to be longer than the sides. The longest hairs you will need to draw will be on your first layer. The following layers are superimposed on layer 1, so they will appear shorter. Step 10: Add Shadows and Part Hair Use your creativity to set shadows along random areas of hair. These can be areas where you don’t know what to do or look uncomfortable when combing your hair.
You will know what I mean if you follow and apply this to your designs. After drawing the shadows, use a mechanical pencil to divide the hairs into small groups until they start to look like individual hairs.

Step 1
Draw a circle Using an HB pencil, let’s start by drawing a circle. This circle represents the eyeball.
Step 2
Choose an angle How angled do you want the eye to be? Draw a line through the circle at the angle you prefer. Feel free to deviate from the examples above. Note: the left side of each circle is the inner side of the eye. This method is great if you’re drawing a pair of eyes on the same face.
Step 3
Draw the inner corner of the eye Time to draw the inner corner of the eye. You can use multiple shapes. Angular, pointed or rounded like the examples above and in the bonus section. For small or shallow corners, stay very close to the circle. For deep and wide corners, place it well outside the circle.
Step 4
Draw the upper eyelid Draw the upper eyelid while staying within the bounds of the circle. Imagine that the eyelid wraps around a sphere. The last example shows the right side of the eyelid wrapping around the eyeball with a large, steep curve. For almond-shaped eyes, you’ll want to stick with a slim football-shaped curve and the deepest part of the arc should be in the middle of the eyelid.
Step 5
Draw the lower eyelid Now draw the lower eyelid. Be sure to draw a slight bump near the inner corner of the eye and avoid pulling the eyelid too far from the line you created in step 2. For almond eyes, the arc of the upper and lower eyelids is very closely aligned vertically.
Step 6
Add a crease Draw the crease above the eye starting from the inner corner and working outward. The thicker the space between this line and the eye, the thicker the crease will be. You can freely imitate the curve of the top cover. This crease should not exceed the line you created in step 2, unless you draw wrinkles. For the hooded eye, you’ll want to bring the crease as close to the upper eyelid as possible. You can even overlap them or cut off part of the top cover. When drawing the crease, keep your lines fairly light. A dark crease will look really deep.
Step 7
Erase outlines Carefully erase your outlines. I used a hard tombow eraser to save time.
Step 8
Add some detail At the inner corner of the eye, draw a curve or two to separate the eyeball from the soft pink wattle. For iris sizing, a good rule of thumb is that the iris takes up about 2/4 of the eyeball (horizontally). Examples below: If you want to draw a perfectly shaped iris, draw a full circle, then erase the parts of the circle that stick out from the eyeball. This step should be done very lightly. Once you have the position and size you want, darken the outline of the iris.
Step 9
Shade your eye To shade and add more detail.

Step 1
Face shape Draw a circle and make a small horizontal line at the bottom for the chin. Its position should be roughly half the diameter of the circle vertically. This is important because the circle was drawn freehand, so the horizontal diameter might be different. Women tend to have shorter chins than their male counterparts, so a long chin can display a more masculine look. When you’re done, draw the line from the jawline to connect the circle to the chin. Women have all kinds of face shapes, but for this example, I’m going to stick with a smooth, tapered jawline that’s less angular. Finally, use a ruler to draw a thin line vertically down the middle of the face.
Step 2
Draw guidelines for the face Measure the length of the face and draw a ruler along the side of your drawing using a straight ruler. Then, divide it into 8 equal spaces lengthwise. Label each of the ticks like the image on the left and once you are done, use a ruler to carefully draw faint lines on the face across the labeled ticks: CENTER LINE, 2, 3, A and C. If you are Been through this tutorial several times already and want to try it without the ruler, draw your lines in this order: CENTER LINE, 2, 3 , B, A, C, essentially breaking sections of your drawing in half again and even. Step 3
Draw the eyes On the CENTER LINE, draw 4 graduations that separate the face into 5 equal spaces horizontally. If you’re like me and have drawn a very narrow cheek/jaw line, you’ll want to consider the overall diameter of the circle (the two dotted lines mark the overall diameter of the head). When drawing the eyes, keep in mind that women generally have larger, more open eyes than men. Step 4
Nose To draw the nose, extend the two lines at the inner corner of each eye to line 3. This will serve as a guideline for the width of the nose. If you’ve already read my nose drawing tutorial, place your circle above line 2. I’m going for a short, narrow nose with a narrow bridge.
Step 5
Eyebrows The image on the left shows the top of the brow bone. I added this so you can see how the eyebrows are naturally positioned in relation to the bone structure. In the image on the right, you can see that the eyebrows are drawn below the C-line. For a surprise expression, the eyebrows will be drawn closer to the C-line. Step 6
Lips From the center of each iris, draw a vertical line up to line 3. This will give us a boundary for the mouth. If you have already practiced my tutorial on drawing lips, place your triangle under the nose. The base of the triangle should be drawn inside the square. The top of the triangle should extend where the bottom of the nose is. After drawing the lips, you might feel the need to lengthen or shorten the chin to make it more proportional to the rest of the face. This is perfectly normal. It happens to me all the time. That’s why it’s important to draw using clear lines so you can easily fix things.
Step 7
Ears The CENTER LINE and Line 2 are general boundaries for the ears. You can learn how to draw realistic ears here.
Step 8
Hair When drawing hair on women, keep in mind that women generally have narrower and shorter foreheads than men. I drew my character’s hairline well below the A-line and drew more hair to the sides of the temple, being careful not to bring the hair too close to the eyebrow.

I like to do one last check before erasing all my directives. Check if the facial features need to be changed. Maybe you would like to change the length of the nose or the shape of the eyes. Once you are happy with your results, use a hard eraser to clean up any lines.

Step 1
Draw an oval Draw an oval and a line at the bottom. The line should be away from the oval by a little more than half the vertical diameter of the oval. That is, a little more than the vertical radius of the oval.
Step 2
Face Contour Connect the oval to the horizontal line to complete the shape of the head. Next, draw a long straight line down the middle of the oval. Don’t worry about shaping the jawline or chin just yet. These are only rough guidelines!
Step 3
Make a ruler Use the length of the head to make a ruler on the side of your drawing. Don’t draw it too close to the face as you want to make room for the nose. Divide your ruler into 8 equal spaces and use a straight ruler to draw lines from each tick across the head. Remember to keep your lines light. It will be a pain to erase later.
Step 4
Eyebrow, Forehead and Top of Head Now that we’re done with the guidelines, let’s start drawing the top of the head. Where the CENTER LINE meets the face, draw a shallow curve. I try to avoid a deep curve because I don’t want to draw too much attention to the brow area. I just try to keep it soft and subtle. Once done, draw a slight bump for the forehead, then use the oval as a rough guide to draw the forehead and the rest of the upper head.
Step 5
Nose If you haven’t read my nose tutorial, go here first. I prefer to draw the nose without the circles, but you can use this technique if you wish. I like to draw my nose at medium length, keeping the tip of the nose below line 1. The angle of the nose depends on the face I’m drawing, but I tend to draw them at a 50 degree angle.
Step 6
Mouth From the base of the nose, form a natural curve that descends through line 2 and wraps towards the face, creating a full upper lip. The corner of the mouth should not extend too far past the nostril. Next, draw the lower lip which should be above line 3. When you are done, check if there is enough space for the chin or if there is way too much space. Adjust the lips accordingly to prepare for the next step.
Step 7
Chin and jawline Keep in mind that your chin and jawline do not have to follow the head/face shape guideline exactly. Extend the jawline beyond the vertical line that runs down the center of the face. When I draw women, I tend to make the jawline look soft or rounded, less angled.
Step 8
Neck Draw the front and back of the neck. Avoid drawing the neck using vertical lines. Also try to avoid using straight lines, as this will look very unnatural.
Step 9
Eyes and eyebrows To find where to place the eye, draw a vertical line from the corner of the lip to the CENTER LINE. The eye should be drawn where these two lines meet. If you want more details on how to draw a side eye, visit this tutorial. Follow the general shape of the eye to form the eyebrow. Keep the eyebrow well below the C line for a casual look. For a more surprised expression, draw the eyebrows a little higher and stretch the eye with them.
Step 10
Ear From the jawline, trace the outline of the ear. This outline can be anywhere from about the CENTER LINE to line 2. Learn how to draw ears.
Step 11
Hair Draw the hairline from the forehead starting between lines A and B. When drawing the hair at the sideburns (hair between the ear and the cheek) keep your lines very clear as females have very sparse sideburns . Don’t forget to volumize the hair, to learn more visit my hair tutorial.
Satisfied with the appearance of your drawing? Take out your eraser and have fun erasing your marks! To save time, I like to use an electric eraser followed by a kneaded eraser to get into those tight spots or overlapping lines.
Experiment by Drawing Many Unique Faces
When you’re comfortable, try drawing faces without the ruler on the side. The examples below have very rough guidelines. In fact, if you look closely, you can see how sloppy they are. Once you get the hang of it, you should be able to draw realistic and unique female faces at will! My challenge for you is to fill an entire page of your sketchbook with rows and rows of faces. Make them small so you can fit as many as you can (in fact, I find it harder to draw large scale faces). It may take 5 or more tries to figure it out. If you’ve filled out the whole page but your faces aren’t quite right, come back and follow this tutorial again.
