Step 1
Start by outlining the catfish’s eyes. First, sketch two large ovals. Note the overlapping lines at the top and bottom of the oval.
Within each oval, paint a smaller oval to represent the pupil. Then, draw a curved line to form the lashes above each eye.
Step 2
Use curved lines to draw the mouth and beard. Notice how the lip lines do not overlap and how the lip contours meet at one point.
Step 3
Draw a beard on the opposite side of the mouth. Use a pair of curves that meet at a point. Then use a long “S” shaped line to start outlining the body.
Step 4
Draw the lower jaw using overlapping curves. Draw another, longer curved line parallel to the first one.
Step 5
Draw four more prongs around the fish’s mouth. Use pairs of short curves that meet at points for each line.
Step 6
Use a long, curved line to draw the pectoral fins of the fish. Expand the line to form a scalloped edge, then duplicate the line back to itself. Then, use a long, curved line to outline the rest of the fish’s body.
Step 7
Draw the dorsal fin of the fish. First, draw a “V” shaped curve. Then, connect the ends of the “V” with a wavy line.
Use curved lines to complete the body and join the ends of the tail. Enclose the first caudal fin with a curved line.
Step 8
Draw the tail or caudal fin. Extend two curved lines from the end of the body, then connect them with a curved line.
Place the anal fin below the tail and pectoral fin on the side of the body, using a curved line on each side.
Step 9
Texture the fins and tail with curved lines running the length of each.
Step 10
Color your catfish. Many catfish species have a dark color, such as black, brown or green to blend into their muddy environment. Some have shades of gray, red or blue.
