Step 1

Start by drawing two overlapping ovals, one smaller than the other. These shapes will form the head and body of the alligator.

Step 2

Connect the ovals at the bottom using a curved line, while also sketching the alligator neck. Use a series of short curved lines to detail the top of the alligator’s head in a smaller oval. Note the larger curves that form the alligator’s eye ridges.

Step 3

Use small, overlapping curves to form the top of the alligator’s snout and a wavy line to form its bottom. Then, use a long, curved line to outline the bottom half of the alligator’s jaw.

Step 4

Extend two long curved lines from the larger oval to form the alligator tail. Notice that the lines meet at a sharp point.

Step 5

Extend another pair of curved lines from the tip and side of the tail, allowing the lines to meet at a sharp point. This forms a bend in the tail and gives it a three-dimensional appearance.

Step 6

Draw legs. Use curved lines to outline shoulders and hips, as well as bent knees. Enclose the foot using “U” shaped lines to form the toes. At the tip of each toe, draw and paint a small triangle, representing the claws. Erase the paths left by the original ovals.

Step 7

Detail of the crocodile’s face. Use a long, curved line to enclose the mouth. In the mouth, enclose an irregular shape to form the tongue. Draw a line down the center of the tongue and draw four triangular teeth. Use curved lines to detail the nostrils, the corners of the mouth, and the top of the muzzle. Enclose a circle for each eye. Draw a circle to form the pupil and a smaller circle inside it. Ball between two circles.

Step 8

Crocodile body texture. Abdomen with curved lines, adorning the back and tail with triangular, shaded spines.

Step 9

Color your crocodile. Most crocodiles are green, brown, or gray in color. Black and yellow striped crocodile.
