Step 1:
Getting Started with Rose Sketch
Let’s start with some basic shapes to place our drawing exactly on the paper when drawing the rose.
Draw a polygon. This shape helps plan the layout of the page. If the flower is open, it needs enough space.
Then draw rough outlines of the stem and leaves.
Step 2:
Add Rosebud to Rose
Start sketching the rose. It will be the center of the flower.
Draw with very light lines, so it will be easier to create precise shapes later.
Step 3:
Draw the first petal
Then start drawing the petals from the center of the bud. The first one has a semicircle shape.
Step 4:
Add 2 more petals to the rose
The second covers it and the third covers both.
Step 5:
Start adding more petals
Gradually add the petals moving around the rose with a light coating.
Take a close look at the reference images and see what they look like, now what do you think they look lik
Step 6:
More petals on a rose
Mark the midline of the petal to better understand its shape. That way you will be able to create the volume of the flower.
It will make the rose look improved in terms of viewing angle.
Step 7:
Add petals from the center of the bud
Gradually add the petals moving around the rose with a light coating.
Step 8:
Add larger petals
Larger petals slightly bent outside the bud.
To make them look more natural, you can make the lines less even, a little shaky.
Mark the midline of the petal to better understand its shape. The lower petal bends even more.
Step 9:
Erase and clean
Delete unnecessary lines. Draw a more precise and detailed outline of the stem and leaves. Use the eraser to make all the lines a little brighter before shading (if you want shading.)
